No Tampa is not out of it for Karlsson. I don't think he is getting traded to Tampa to be honest but they could fit Karlsson onto the team. |

And a few days ago the mighty Eklund had Kucherov going to the Rangers with one of his made-up 'click bait' posts. |

Personally, I don't disagree with the premise. So many people want to default to McDavid being the best player, but I watch them both play quite a bit and I don't think that it's a guarantee that he is.
Personally, I think Matthews in Edmonton makes them slightly better, and McDavid in Toronto makes them slightly worse. Just my opinion |

Not bad.
He still has me a bit worried re: playoff performance. That said, 9.5aav for a 40 goal/100 point guy who is currently 25.
I like that better than 11m for Tavares. |

It is similar to but not quite Gretzky and Messier.
A more similar comparison, but in a different sport would be back in the day when Steve Carlton was the best pitcher in baseball, and a lefty and in the National League, he was not even the top 10 paid pitcher in baseball.
A couple of reasons
1. The Yankees overpaid for a lot of mediocre talent
2. He had a very fair contract for the time he signed it.
3. He knew that he would get a big raise after that contract
Sadly, because of horrible money management by his agent, he needed every cent he never earned.
The point is, just being the highest paid doesn't make you the best and just being the best doesn't mean you are or should be the highest paid. You should be paid in accordance with your talent and what you bring to your team without making it impossible for your team to build around you...giving Matthews that kind of a contract (greater than McDavid) might mean that the Leafs will have to ship out more than just entry level talent. Also, it will thin the quality of depth on a team that will rely on the waves of offense approach since they still have a mediocre at best blueline.
If Matthews were smart, or at least not short sighted, he would take a team first deal that allows cap room to keep players and add players while ensuring that the team is a contender....like Stamkos.

unreal little contract for him. That tax free state money plus a winning team just makes signing guys so easy.

I will get on that, Johnson would fit in well with Colorado. The only problem is Johnson's ex lives in Colorado now so maybe he won't waive his NTC... |

While both will likely put up similar points over the course of their career, McDavid will probably be a more prolific goal-scorer, but Matthews just seems like more of a leader and as EK pointed out, makes others around him better.
Now, this is purely the impression I get from watching them play and seeing them in interviews... just a personal opinion. McDavid seems like he's in it a little too much for McDavid and not enough for the Oilers. I'm not saying he's a super selfish player, but he just strikes me as a little more than the average player.
Matthews seems more humble and willing to sacrifice personal accomplishment for the better of the team.
Go ahead, flame away. I won't be able to read any of this until to tonight, so have fun. |

Matthews will sign for less than McDavid. Not because he deserves less but because hes thinking win. The leaf brass know exactly what they are doing when it comes to signing their talent. These posts by ek are a reach. Yes I prefer Matthews over McDavid. My opinion but I dont think it's all about the money for him. Gonna be hard to build a team around guys who just go for the cap max. That's the reality in a salary cap era |
